Calgary Stampeders News Release
On a cold, snowy Saturday November day, Stampeders fans showed great generosity as they donated 4,600 coats to the Share the Warmth program to benefit The Salvation Army.
The record number of jackets was collected at the Nov. 1 game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, at the Q107 donation box at Eau Claire Market and through local school initiatives.
"Stampeders fans have once again demonstrated that they have a big heart when it comes to helping those in need," said Stampeders president Gordon Norrie. "Thanks to our fans' generosity, thousands of people will be a little warmer this winter."
This year's contributions bring the all-time donation totals to nearly 15,600 coats.
Stamps players including quarterback Drew Tate, who has been the team's representative for the Share the Warmth program for the past four years, and co-player rep Brandon Smith will visit the Salvation Army Centre of Hope in the near future to help sort the jackets collected in this year's coat drive.
