Revs Held In Check In Loss At Camden

August 22, 2014 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution were held in check by Camden starter Wes Torrez, dropping a 4-1 final to the Riversharks in front of 4,705 fans at Campbell's Field on Friday night. The loss snaps a three-game losing streak for the Revs. The series continues with a twi-night doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 5:05 p.m.

Torrez (5-3) worked 7.2 shutout innings, giving up just four base hits. The Revs had a chance to strike early as Wilson Valdez tripled to right-center with one out in the first but was stranded. Other opportunities came when Eric Patterson doubled to lead off the fourth but was stranded at third, and in the sixth inning when the Revs left runners at the corners after a pair of walks, as they were unable to solve the right-hander all night.

Offensively, Camden took the lead in the bottom of the second as Eric Perez picked up an RBI on a ground ball to short that resulted in an error, scoring Jose Julio-Ruiz who had led off with a single.

Brian Van Kirk lined a solo home run to left-center in the fourth inning, increasing Camden's lead to 2-0.

Revs starter Jorge Martinez retired 11 of 12 batters through the seventh inning, but was charged with two more runs in the eighth as the Riversharks chased him with three consecutive singles. Bryan Pounds drove in the first insurance run, ending the night for Martinez (6-8), while Julio-Ruiz picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice for Camden's final run.

Cole Kimball recorded the final out of the eighth, and remained in the game to pick up the save in the ninth. With the Revs down to their final strike, Angel Flores singled up the middle to break up the shutout, scoring Bryant Nelson who had reached on a double, but Kimball retired pinch-hitter Travis Garcia on a lineout to deep left to complete his second save.

Saturday's doubleheader begins at 5:05 p.m. with Camden righty Dan Blewett (4-3, 4.35) facing a Revs starter yet to be named. York's Corey Thurman (7-5, 3.75) squares off with Camden lefty Fu-Te Ni (1-4, 5.13) in the nightcap. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 4:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Daniel Kurish on the call.
