Mustangs Remain Undefeated, Beat Detroit Waza 13-9

December 9, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Chicago Mustangs News Release

As the snow furiously fell outside of the Grand Sports Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL, the Chicago Mustangs continued to stay hot in the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL). The Mustangs extended their record to five wins without a loss by beating last years US Arena Open Cup Champions, Detroit Waza Flo, by a final score of 13-9. "This victory is not only a huge accomplishment for our organization, but it is also a credit to our fan base that made it out to the game despite the weather outside," said team president Armando Gamboa. The home team made it worth the trip for their fans, as they were able to pull ahead early and maintain the lead throughout the match.

The game started with what seemed to be a frenzy of attacks by both sides. Both Detroit and Chicago were pushing three, four and even five attackers on every possession. Both teams knew it was essential to score the first goal of the match, and they were doing everything in their power to do so. However, it was the Mustangs that were able to capitalize first with Bryan Velazquez Moya putting a double move on Detroit's keeper Joe Kapinos, after a perfect cross by Mustangs captain Adrian Ortiz, to score the first goal of the match. The heavy attack continued, and Detroit saw several early chances. Mustang's goalkeeper Jesus Flores was at the top of his game, making several spectacular saves in the first quarter. And Flores' hard work paid off, as his teammate Miguel Angel Vaca was able to score a goal on transition to put the Mustangs up early 2-0. Finally after having much of their attack warded off by a fantastic Mustangs back line, the Waza was able to get one on to the board with a volley shot by forward Drew Ducker from a Doug Rice cross.

As the second quarter got under way, the Chicago Mustangs began their statement that they are serious contenders for the Ron Newman Cup. The Mustangs absolutely dominated the second quarter, outscoring Detroit 5-1, and opening up a commanding lead. The amazing stand was lead by offensive star of the game, and second year Mustang, Miguel Angel Vaca. The quarter saw Vaca put in 2 goals and add on 1 assist, Efrain "Wilo" Martinez score 1 goal and 1 assist, Adrian Ortiz and David Aranda both notching a goal, and Bryan Velazquez Moya helping out with 2 assists. Detroit's Zach Wilkes was able to put a goal in on a brief defensive miscommunication by a nearly flawless backline of the Mustangs to finish off the half.

The second half saw a valiant effort by Detroit to make a comeback. However, for every move they made, the Mustangs would have an answer to counter with. At one point the Waza was able to cut the lead down to 2 goals, however the high-powered Mustangs offense never looked tired and continued to prevail. The second half was filled with the action that Mustangs fans are accustomed to seeing, and the home crowd was able to enjoy quite a thriller. And as the final seconds counted down on the game clock, the Mustangs, and their fans celebrated 13-9 victory.

The Mustangs next challenge is a weekend double header that takes them to face the Cleveland Freeze on Friday, December 13, and then they are headed to Detroit for a rematch against the Waza on Saturday, December 14. Both games will be shown live at the Red Card Lounge located on the second floor of Grand Sports Arena. Kickoffs for both games are scheduled for 6:05 PM, with the viewing parties starting at 5:00 PM. "As the playoff picture begins to take shape, it is looking like this weekend could define the standings in the Eastern Division," said Mustangs General Manger Nasser Rafidia. The Mustangs will then return home to take on TSOB FC in a US Arena Open Cup match on December 22, 2013 at the Grand Sports Arena. Admission for that match will be $5 for general admission at the door, and as always VIP tables will be available for $150.
