Musketeers Chosen for US Select Under 18 Team

Sioux City, IA. - Musketeers defenseman Ryan Mantha, along with forward Joe Snively, have been chosen for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team that will compete at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament Aug. 5-10 in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.
The Musketeers trio participated in the Boys' Select 17 Player Development Camp, which took place from June 28-July 3 at the Northtown Center at Amherst in Williamsville, N.Y.
Head Coach and General Manager Jay Varady weighed in on the impact for his players in this tournament. "Ryan, Bob, and Joe did a great job in Buffalo to earn a chance to represent their country at one of the biggest events for players in their age bracket. Every top hockey country in the world sends their elite players to this tournament. The Ivan Hlinka is used by NHL teams to develop an early watch list and USA hockey will use it as an evaluation opportunity for future World Junior teams. We would like to wish the guys and the Hlinka team the best of luck at the tournament."
Snively and Mantha, who are returning veterans from the Musketeers 2012-13 season, join a long list of former Musketeer players to participate in international competition for the United States, and are two of just 6 players who were rostered with USHL teams last season. For all three players, it will present an opportunity to not only represent themselves personally and their country nationally, but the Siouxland community as well.

The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament is an annual event held each August for national under-18 teams from around the world.

The Musketeers expect to announce their schedule for the 2013-14 season in the latter half of July. Roster announcements are expected at the end of July after an evaluation camp in St. Louis, MO.
