PawSox Swept in Doubleheader

ALLENTOWN, PA - Pawtucket saw their losing skid hit a season high six games as they lost both games Monday night at Coca-Cola Park by finals of 6-1 and 5-2 in Allentown.

A long day at the ballpark began with the resumption of a suspended game between the PawSox and IronPigs from April 10th. The game was stopped after two full innings due to consistent rain fall.

Lineup changes were abound, but as the game resumed in the top of the 3rd, Alex Hassan doubled with one out and scored on an RBI single by Will Middlebrooks to snag a 1-0 lead.

Chris Hernandez was on the mound as the game resumed and tossed two scoreless frames facing just six batters, but he ran into major trouble in the 5th. The first two batters both singled before Steven Lerud singled to tie the game. After a bunt hit loaded the bases, Leandro Castro emptied the bases with a three-run double to put the IronPigs in front 4-1. Hernandez could not finish the inning as he walked two more in the inning to load the bases while throwing 41 pitches. Pedro Beato came in a got a ground ball to end the 5th with the Sox down by three, 4-1.

Beato would toss two more scoreless frames to keep the PawSox within striking distance.

All-Star Anthony Carter came in to pitch the 8th and allowed a walk and three singles, including a two-run single by Michael Martinez, to give the IronPigs a 6-1 lead heading into the 9th.

The Sox got a one out single from Ronald Bermudez, but were retired in order from there dropping the suspended game 6-1 to Lehigh Valley, their season high 5th consecutive loss.

With the suspended game in the books, the PawSox jumped out in front of the 'Pigs in the 1st inning of the regularly scheduled game at Coca-Cola Park.

Jeremy Hazelbaker led off with a single and stole second base. With one out, Will Middlebrooks hit a fly ball that was dropped by center fielder Tyson Gillies allowing Hazelbaker to score. Alex Hassan then delivered a two-out RBI single to put Pawtucket in front 2-0.

Just up from Double-A Portland, Jeremy Kehrt made the start for the PawSox and threw two scoreless innings. He ran into trouble in the 3rd as he allowed back to back singles before Cody Overbeck doubled to make it a 2-1 game. After a ground out to third, Josh Fields doubled to right center scoring two more to give Lehigh Valley a 3-2 lead. Leandro Castro followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 4-2. Kehrt would not allow another run in the frame and stranded two men on base, but needed 37 pitches to get through the inning.

Lehigh Valley added another run in the 4th against Kehrt as Overbeck connected on another RBI double to bring the score to 5-2. Chris Martin came in out of the bullpen inheriting two runners in scoring position, but got through the inning without another run scoring. Martin would toss 2.2 scoreless frames of relief.

The PawSox will continue their series with Lehigh Valley Tuesday night at 7:05pm. Pawtucket with send lefty Drake Britton (7-6, 3.51 w/ Portland) to the mound in his Triple-A debut against right hander Tyler Cloyd (1-8, 7.69)

Pawtucket will return to McCoy Stadium for a four game homestand prior to the All-Star Break against Rochester beginning Thursday, July 11th at 7:05pm through Sunday July 14th.
