Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Gaining Momentum: Salem enters Wednesday night in search of a series sweep over Wilmington, which would be just its second series sweep of the season and the first since April 18-21 at Lynchburg. While the Red Sox have won three in a row, Salem has not been outhit by its opponent in the last eight games, a stretch in which Salem has outscored its foe 38-17 and outhit its foe 76-42. Despite this offensive superiority, the Sox are just 5-3 during this stretch, including a pair of one-run losses. The Sox are still mathematically alive for the first-half title in the Southern Division, but down by five and half games with seven remaining, the Sox basically need to run the table to have any chance. Last year, the Salem Sox won seven of their last eight games to finish the half 41-28, but still came in second in the Southern Division behind the 44-25 Dash.

Heating Up: With four homers in his last eight games, outfielder Henry Ramos is enjoying his best stretch of the season. He reached base twice in Tuesday's victory, giving him a .400 average in his last 10 games. Impressively, the switch-hitter has hit two homers from each side of the plate in his last eigt, and in his last ten, Ramos has gone 12-for-30 with four homers, two doubles, and nine RBI. He started the year 3-for-33, but has hit .294 since.

This One Goes Up To 11: With two hits and two RBI on Tuesday, Keury De La Cruz extending his hitting streak to 11 games, in which he is batting .450 (18-for-40)! He collected his 22nd double of the season on Monday night, giving him two more than the second-best doubles deliverer in the circuit. Since June 3, only Lynchburg's Elmer Reyes, who's hitting .484 (15-for-31) in his last nine games, has a better average in the league than De La Cruz. Across minor league baseball, only Max Muncy of the Stockton Ports in the California League has more RBI than De La Cruz since June 3. The Dominican outfielder is second on the team with 21 multi-hit games on the season, but he still has not registered more than two hits in any game all year.

Pitching Prowess: The Red Sox collected their third shutout win of the season on Monday, following it up with another splendid pitching performance on Tuesday. While Henry Owens and William Cuevas both were excellent in their starts, the story of the excellent stretch might be the bullpen. Going back to last Thursday against the Dash, Salem relievers have pitched 14 consecutive scoreless innings. Over these 14 frames, the Sox relief arms have struck out 14 batters and permitted just four hits.

Ho-Hum: Another day, another two hits for Garin Cecchini. Adding in a walk, he reached base three times on Tuesday, collecting multiple hits for the 25th time this season. His league-best clip is .355.

It Only Takes One: Salem scored in the second inning on Tuesday, extending its streak to 83 straight games with at least one run. The Sox have not been shutout since August 12, 2012 at Wilmington. Salem is the only team in the CL to score at least one in every game so far in 2013.
