Stars Fall Despite Kjeldgaard's Homer

Montgomery, AL. - Looking to salvage the concluding game of the final road series of the first half, the Huntsville Stars battled the Montgomery Biscuits and came up short, falling by a score of 8-4, as the Biscuits had four players with multiple hits and every player get at least one, totaling thirteen hits for the game.

Montgomery struck first in the game when Mikie Mahtook scored on a double by Cameron Seitzer in the first inning. This was the eighth run surrendered in the first inning by Stars pitching this month. Huntsville answered in the fourth, plating a pair of runs on a single by Robinson Diaz that scored Nick Shaw and Hector Gomez to take a 2-1 lead. Huntsville starting pitcher Andy Moye could not hold the lead though, giving up three runs in the bottom of the fourth, leaving the Stars down 4-2 after four innings.

In the top of the sixth, the Stars answered back in a thunderous way. With two outs and Jason Rodgers on first, Brock Kjeldgaard lifted a deep shot to left, clearing the fence and tying the score at four. For Kjeldgaard, it was his league leading twelfth homer on the year.

Moye went five innings, giving up four runs on six hits with five strikeouts before leaving with the game tied. He was replaced by Santo Manzanillo in the bottom of the sixth, who gave up hits to all five batters he faced, including a homer by Kyeong Kang, and the Biscuits scored three runs before Manzanillo was replaced by Casey Medlen. The Biscuits would score another run to balloon the lead to 8-4 before the sixth inning ended. That would prove to be the final tally as three Biscuits relief pitchers combined to shut the Stars out for the remaining three innings.

Enny Romero started for the Biscuits and pitched six innings, giving up four hits leading to four Stars runs, two earned, while striking out four to pick up the win.

Huntsville was lead at the plate by Kjeldgaard and Diaz, who each drove in two runs. Kjeldgaard also struck out three times and Rodgers walked twice.

Kang led Montgomery at the plate, going two for four with three runs batted in as well as a triple and a homerun.

With the loss, the Stars fall to 27-36 on the year, thirteen games behind the North Division leading Birmingham Barons. The Biscuits improve to 34-31, one and a half games behind South Division leading Mobile Baybears.

Huntsville will return home to Joe Davis Stadium on Thursday to open up a series with the Chattanooga Lookouts. Game is set to start at 6:43. The game will be a Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark.
