Two Paladins Gallop into Wilmington for 2013

Wilmington N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks announced today the signing of two Furman University (NC) Paladins for the 2013 season. Redshirt Junior Greg Harrison will begin his second season in the Coastal Plain League looking to bring some more offense to the Sharks. Sophomore right-handed hurler Matt Solter will be in his first season in the league and will add depth to the pitching staff. Harrison a 6-0, 195-pound junior from Hilton Head, S.C. is having a great spring at the dish for and is one of the top hitters in the lineup as of late. In his last seven games he has picked up a hit in six of them as he is hitting .411 on the year. He has 12 doubles, five home runs, 21 RBIs and leads the team in slugging percentage with .781.
In the summer of 2012, Harrison played for Coastal Plain League team Thomasville HiToms. He started 48 games for Thomasville and batted .288 followed with four home runs and 31 RBIs. He was selected to the 2012 Coastal Plain League All-Star game. Harrison's sophomore year at Spartanburg Methodist College he was on the pitching staff for the 2011 season. He appeared in nine games finishing with a 2-1 record throwing 18.1 innings striking out 13.
Matt Solter
Sophomore pitcher Matt Solter 6-3, 210-pounder from New Bern, N.C. has done a great job as the closer for the Paladins this spring. Out of the bullpen and on the hill Solter has thrown 35 innings striking out 31 and has only given up two home runs. He leads the team in saves (7) and is tied for fifth in the Southern Conference.
As a freshman, Solter threw 35 innings having the second most appearances on the team (32) and held opponents to hitting just .259 against him.
The Wilmington Sharks are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1000 alumni drafted and 62 alums-including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander-make their major league debut so far.
