New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - New Hampshire extended its run of solid situational pitching at New Britain Stadium on Sunday afternoon as four Fisher Cats hurlers combined on a 7-4 victory over the host Rock Cats. The victory - in front of 5,346 hearty fans - completed New Hampshire's three-game weekend sweep of New Britain.

The contest featured the first AA-level start for the Toronto organization's top draft choice in 2012 - RHP Marcus Stroman - who was impressive over five shut-out frames with 6 strike outs en route to his first Eastern League win.

The slumping Rock Cats have now lost seven straight; prior to plating a run in the bottom of the 6th today, they had been held scoreless for 20 1/3 consecutive innings.

New Hampshire opened the scoring in the 3rd when Brad Glenn followed a Clint Robinson double with a long HR over the left field wall off Rock Cats starter and loser, B. J. Hermsen (1-4). The Fisher Cats struck again in the 5th when their DH, Ricardo Nanita, followed a Kevin Pillar single with a long HR to right to increase their lead to 4-0.

The Rock Cats finally broke through with their first run in the bottom of the 6th when, with Dustin Antolin on in relief of Stroman, Mark Sobolewski lead off with a double and later came around on Daniel Ortiz' hard single off the pitcher's glove.

New Hampshire scored twice more in the 7th inning when a fielding miscue, a sacrifice bunt, and two solid hits brought the last two Fisher Cat runners across the plate.

In the bottom of the 8th with Matt Wright on the hill for New Hampshire, the recently-activated Deibinson Romero belted his first HR of 2013 for New Britain - a shot over the CF fence with a runner aboard - to cut the deficit to 6-3. Two outs later, a Curt Smith double scored Danny Ortiz with the Rock Cats' 4th and final marker.

Kevin Nolan homered for New Hampshire in the 9th to extend their margin; with Joel Carreno on in relief, the Rock Cats went quietly in their half of the frame making the final score 7-4. Carreno picked up his 4th Save of the year.
