
Pillar and Schimpf Homer for Fisher Cats

MANCHESTER, NH- Kevin Pillar went 3-for-5 with a home run and Ryan Schimpf drilled his Eastern League-leading ninth homer of the season, but Portland avoided a sweep in New Hampshire with a 15-4 win at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Thursday night.
Pillar led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to right field for a 1-0 lead, his fourth of the season. Schimpf's solo shot led off the bottom of the eighth for the final run for the Fisher Cats.
Portland (23-15) edged in front in the top of the top second inning. Travis Shaw (4-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) led off with a double and Juan Carlos Linares was hit-by-pitch. Matt Spring's fly to left was misplayed for an error as both runners scored to make it 2-1 Sea Dogs.
The Sea Dogs extended the lead to 6-1 in the top of the third inning. Xander Bogaerts walked and scored on a double by Tony Thomas. Shaw followed with a home run. Linares would reach on an infield single and score on a triple by Shannon Wilkerson.
New Hampshire (19-22) loaded the bases in the bottom of the third on a single by Pillar, a single by Ricardo Nanita and a walk to Clint Robinson. Kevin Nolan ripped a two-run single to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Portland scored the game's next eight runs, Michael Almanzar (3-for-5, HR, 5 RBI) singled in a run in the top of the fourth inning, added a two-run double in the sixth and hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth. The 15 runs on 18 hits were both season-highs for the first place Sea Dogs.
Brandon Workman (5-1) allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings to win for Portland. He walked one and struck out six. Miguel Celestino worked the final three innings for his first save.
Ryan Tepera (4-3) took the loss for the Fisher Cats. Chroye Spoone, Tommy Hottovy (two scoreless), Matt Wright and John Stilson all worked for New Hampshire in relief. Stilson allowed one run in one inning with two strikeouts in his second appearance of the season.
