Payden Mielke Signs Commitment with Colorado State

May 14, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) Port Huron Fighting Falcons

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are pleased to announce that defenseman Payden Mielke has signed a commitment to play ACHA Division 1 hockey for the Colorado State University Rams for the 2013-14 season..

Mielke played 35 regular-season games with the Fighting Falcons after being acquired in a trade with the Jamestown Ironmen in November. The 6"1" 185 lb. defensemen had two goals and 11 assists, a +11 +/- rating and just two penalty minutes with the Fighting Falcons this season.

In two NAHL seasons with Port Huron, Jamestown and Corpus Christi, Mielke amassed 24 points on four goals and 20 assits, a +14 +/- rating and 36 penalty minutes in 106 games.

"We are excited that Payden has earned the opportunity to play college hockey at Colorado State," said Fighting Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon. "He was one of our most consistent guys on the blue line since he came over from Jamestown."

Colorado State's Fort Collins campus is just 12 miles from Mielke's hometown of Loveland, Colorado.

Mielke is the ninth member of the 2012-13 Fighting Falcons to sign a college commitment. The team had more college commitments in the 2012-13 season than the previous two years combined after making college advancement a priority at the start of last season.

The Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
