Lake Elsinore, CA - Duke Von Schamann continued the theme of strong Quakes' starting pitching on Monday night in Lake Elsinore, as he gave the Quakes seven quality innings in a 4-1 victory over the Storm.
Von Schamann (5-1) won his fifth straight start, holding the Storm offense to just one run on two hits.
Rancho got a pair of two-run homers to account for all four runs. Darnell Sweeney popped his fourth of the year in the first, giving the Quakes an early 2-0 advantage over Storm starter Frank Garces (4-3).
Von Schamann made just one mistake, as he allowed his first hit in the fifth inning, with Luis Domoromo taking him deep to right-center field, making it a 2-1 game.
Ryan Mount answered that blast in the next inning, sending a two-run shot to right field with Angelo Songco aboard, giving him a team-leading six on the year and giving the Quakes a 4-1 lead.
Big-leaguer Scott Elbert gave the Quakes a 1-2-3 eighth and Owen Jones worked around a bases-loaded jam in the ninth, getting Chris Burke to hit into a game-ending double-play for his second save of the year.
The Quakes (20-18) have now won three of their last four games overall and return to LoanMart Field after taking a day off on Tuesday. Wednesday's series-opener against the San Jose Giants will feature Quakes' right-hander James Campbell (2-1) against San Jose lefty Ty Blach (4-1). Wednesday night will be Minute-To-Win-It Wednesday at LoanMart Field, as fans will be competing on the field to win great Quakes' prizes.
