
Thunder Lose Heartbreaker in Overtime in Game 7 to Allen 3-2

Allen, TX - In one of the most exciting CHL Finals in recent history, Wichita (11-4) fell at the hands of the Allen Americans (12-7) in Game 7 by the final of 3-2 in overtime. Todd Robinson's goal just under three minutes into the extra session ended the game, giving the Americans their first CHL Title. RG Flath recorded a pair of goals in the loss for the Thunder. Allen takes the series four games to three and improves to 4-0 in Game 7's.
The game began with a fever pitch as the two teams battled hard through the first five minutes. After making a terrific save, Jung was able to feed it up to Flath at the Thunder blue line. He unloaded a shot past Aaron Dell from the right circle and gave Wichita a 1-0 lead.
Allen came out hard in the second period, outshooting the Thunder 16-4. After Wichita was assessed a penalty, Flath scored his second of the game at 13:38 of the second after driving a long shot from just inside the Allen line and increasing the lead to 2-0.
The Americans kept up the pressure and were finally rewarded with a goal at 7:13 from Jarret Lukin to cut the lead to 2-1. Wichita started find some room and had a terrific chance from Les Reaney denied by Dell after spinning away from a defender in the slot, but Dell was able to get his glove along the post to keep it out. At 17:41, Trevor Hendrikx sent a shot along the ice and got through Torrie Jung to tie the game at two.
In the extra session, Allen had a couple of quick scoring chances in the early going. Mike Montgomery fed a quick pass up the right wall to Todd Robinson who drove one past the blocker of Jung to end the game at 2:47.
The Thunder falls in the Finals in back-to-back years and have lost in their last three Finals appearances. Wichita drops to 3-1 in Game 7's all-time and loses its first overtime game of this post-season run. Flath finishes with nine goals in the playoffs and recorded his 18th post-season tally in a Thunder uniform. Jung took the loss stopping 34 of 37 shots. Dell earned the win, stopping 21 of 23 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-1 on the man advantage while Allen was 0-for-4.
