Wichita, KS (May 10th) - With their backs against the wall, Wichita (11-3) responded with a Game 6 victory at INTRUST Bank Arena Friday pnight, defeating the Allen Americans (11-7) by the final of 3-2 and forcing a decisive Game 7 tomorrow night in Allen. Three different Thunder players found the back of the net in the first period and Torrie Jung won his 11th game of the post-season. Wichita will play in just its fourth Game 7 all-time and its first since the 2004-05 Northern Conference Semifinals against Bossier-Shreveport.

Allen got on the board first with a power play goal from Brian McMillin at 7:36 of the first period. Seven minutes later, Wichita scored three times in just under six minutes to grab a 3-1 advantage. Greger Hanson got to a rebound at 14:42 and tied the game at one. 30 seconds later, Kevin Young caught a beautiful pass from Chad Painchaud in the slot and put a one-timer past Dell to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. With a minute remaining in the opening 20 minutes, Ian Lowe got to a rebound that kicked off Jason Deitsch and put it over Dell to extend the lead to 3-1.

The only goal of the second period came from Anthony Maiani at 8:05. After a Thunder power play expired, Jim McKenzie came out of the box, found a loose puck at the red line, skated in on a two-on-one and fed it across to Maiani who quickly snapped it past Jung to cut the lead to one.

The Thunder were forced to kill off two late Allen power plays, but were up to the challenge in the third period. Travis Wight was called for delay of game for playing the puck with his hand and Matt Summers whistled for a high stick. Wichita was able to get through both of those situations without allowing a shot through. The Americans made one last effort to tie the game and force overtime, but Wichita was able to hold up the fort and came out on top, winning 3-2.

Wichita improves to 6-1 at home during the post-season and to 3-5 in a Game 6. The Thunder also win for just the third time in the month of May, improving to 3-8. Lowe records his third game-winner of the playoffs and his fifth tally. Young adds his fourth of the post-season while Painchaud extended his point-scoring streak to four games with an assist. Jung earned the win, stopping 23 of 25 shots. Dell lost for the seventh time in the playoffs, stopping 31 of 34 shots.
