Boston Breakers News Release

The Breakers are one of only three unbeaten teams remaining in the National Women's Soccer League, and they look to extend that streak Saturday night (7 p.m. ET) in Maryland against the Washington Spirit.

"I think Washington is a good team, and they've proved that this season. I think people may have underestimated them," Boston Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said. "And we're in a better place than we were on opening day (a 1-1 tie at home vs. Washington)."

Currently in second place in the NWSL table, three points back of Portland and tied on points with FC Kansas City, the Breakers come into Saturday's match with a 2-0-1 record compared to Washington's 0-2-2 mark.

For the second straight week, a Breaker was named NWSL Player of the Week. This week's honor went to Sydney Leroux, who scored the first-ever hat trick in league history, leading the Breakers to a 4-1 win at home last Saturday against the Chicago Red Stars. Katie Schoepfer opened the scoring for Boston, tallying her first goal of the season. Currently, Leroux leads the league in goals scored with four.

"Schoepfer scored a very important first goal for us, and Syd picked up three more," Cole said. "At Western New York, HAO (Heather O'Reilly) got both goals for us. We have a lot of options."

The Spirit are coming off a 2-1 loss to Portland in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,011 at the Maryland SoccerPlex last Saturday. Despite heading into Saturday's match with no wins on the season, Washington poses a threat up top with Canadian international Diana Matheson, who leads the team and is tied for second in the league in scoring with three goals.

You can watch Saturday night's game live at 7 p.m. ET on the NWSL YouTube page.
