Wilmington Sharks News Release
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Today the Wilmington Sharks announced the opening of registration for their 2013 Host Family Program. The Sharks, who kickoff the 2013 season May 28th, are looking for families to serve as hosts to players from May 25th through August 15th.
Every year the Coastal Plain League recruits some of the top collegiate baseball talent from across the country. These young men travel from far and wide, many landing in our own backyard. According to NCAA rules, student-athletes cannot be paid for living expenses, food or any other costs. The Wilmington Sharks team is built on people just like you willing to serve as host families to these athletes.
Our host families consist of retired individuals and parents with children up to teenagers. In addition to receiving Sharks season tickets, a meet and greet dinner with the players and being recognized on the field for their contribution, there are numerous other benefits to being a host family. Most importantly, the bond formed between hosts and players is one that will last a lifetime. Have a child that loves baseball? What better opportunity for them to learn tips on their favorite sport than from an expert. Not to mention the potential to live with a future MLB star.
Our host families must be able to welcome these student-athletes into their homes much like they would any visiting guest. Families must be available to host players from May 25th through August 15th. We recommend you provide players with access to cupboards and food - treat them like a part of your family! Finally, you must provide players with a clean, safe and overall pleasant environment.
Sign-up now and feel the satisfaction that comes with knowing you helped a student-athlete achieve a dream.
To reserve your spot as a 2013 Host Family, call Pat Hutchins, Wilmington Sharks GM at 910-343-5621.
