Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners and Mike Pinto have announced the signings of shortstop Tyler Stubblefield and right handed pitcher Travis Bradshaw.

Tyler comes to the Miners from the San Diego Padres Organization.  He was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft.  Stubblefield had previously been drafted in 2009 by the Atlanta Braves in the 33rd round but chose to remain at KennesawStateUniversity.

"Tyler brings an awful lot to the Miners", said Pinto.   "He finds ways to get on-base, runs well and plays a solid defense.    The reports I had from people in the Padres organization were overwhelmingly positive about him.   I am looking forward to having him with us."

Stubblefield split time in 2012 between Fort Wayne, IN and Lake Elsinore, CA with the Padres.   The majority of the season with Ft.Wayne gave him 336 at bats there where he hit .252 with 16 doubles, one triple and five home runs with 17 stolen bases.   Stubblefield showed a great feel for the strike zone carrying a .369 on base percentage in 2012.    Defensively at shortstop in Fort Wayne, he carried a .968 fielding percentage.

Travis Bradshaw, 6'7, 215 right handed pitcher, joins the Miners following his college season at WesternOregonUniversity.   In 2012 he went 9-2 with a 3.41 ERA, including four complete games.     The first team GNAC all-conference selection pitched in 58 innings, striking out 47 and walked only nine batters.

"Travis has a huge potential upside on what he can do in pro ball", said Pinto.   "He has a power arm that could translate to great success for us.    Multiple scouting reports have been very strong about what he brings to the Miners.   I am looking forward to seeing him in the spring."
