Wings Look to Bounce Back into Playoff Race during Weekend SeriesApril 3, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Philadelphia Wings
The Wings, who have lost their previous four games, will be playing at full strength this weekend, for the first time since February. The team struggled through March with several suspensions and a slew of injuries that kept key contributors sidelined for crucial match-ups. In March, the Wings went 1-4, winning on the road in Buffalo on March 1 but falling short in the next four games.
"Things happen quickly. A game can get out of hand really quickly or you can get back in a game really quickly," said Wings head coach Johnny Mouradian. "It will be good to get a full-lineup out there and get some players healthy and back on the field."
The Kevins, as in forwards Kevin Crowley and Kevin Ross have been the Wings most productive players during this four game slide, scoring 19 and 16 points respectively. The Wings received a boost on the offensive end with the return of Brendan Mundorf who scored three goals last weekend in his first games of the season since recovering from a leg injury and will hopefully continue to be a major contributor on the left side.
Saturday's matchup in Rochester will be the third meeting of the season between the Wings and the Knighthawks. The teams have split the season series at one game apiece, with each team winning on the other's home field. Prior to the Wings 10-8 victory in Rochester in late February, Philadelphia had not defeated the Knighthawks since 2009. Saturday's game will also have major playoff implications as Philadelphia trails Rochester for second place in the East division by just a half game, with only four games remaining on the schedule.
Philadelphia will look for redemption against the 5-7 Swarm when they return home to Wells Fargo Center on a quick turnaround for a Sunday game at 4 p.m. The Wings meet the Minnesota for the second time in 10 days, after falling to the Swarm last Friday in Minneapolis 20-11. However, last week's game was played without veteran goalie Brandon Miller and rookie defender Michael Manley, both serving one-game suspensions.
The Wings home game at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday will feature a post-game jersey auction for the limited edition grey jerseys the team will wear in support of brain cancer awareness. Proceeds for the jersey auction will benefit the RENK Foundation and the Sanderson Memorial Trust.
Tickets for the Wings' remaining two home games at Wells Fargo Center are available by phone at 215-389-WING or online at www. WingsLAX.com.
