Playoffs Update: Three Teams Are In, More Looking to Clinch this Weekend
April 3, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
The National Lacrosse League has announced updated playoff scenarios as the league enters Week #14 of the 16-week NLL regular season. The Calgary Roughnecks, Edmonton Rush and Toronto Rock have all clinched playoff berths while the Philadelphia Wings and Washington Stealth both have an opportunity to clinch this weekend. Toronto has an opportunity to clinch the East Division regular season title, which would ensure home field advantage for the first two playoff rounds.
East Division
Toronto (9-5) has clinched a playoff berth and can clinch the East Division regular season title with a win over Rochester on Sunday. Toronto can clinch a home playoff game with a Philadelphia loss to Rochester on Saturday.
Philadelphia (5-7) can clinch a playoff berth this weekend with two wins AND a Minnesota loss to Buffalo OR a Colorado loss to Edmonton.
Rochester (5-6) can clinch a playoff berth this weekend with two wins AND two Minnesota losses OR two wins AND one Minnesota loss AND a Colorado loss to Edmonton.
West Division
Calgary (8-5) has clinched a playoff berth and can clinch a playoff home game with a win over Washington.
Edmonton (8-5) has clinched a playoff berth and can clinch a home playoff game with a win over Colorado AND a Calgary win over Washington.
Washington (7-6) can clinch a playoff berth with a win OR two Minnesota losses OR one Minnesota loss AND a Colorado loss to Edmonton.
Eight teams will advance to the 2013 Playoffs, which start on the weekend of April 27. The crossover rule allows the 5th place team in the West Division to take the place of the 4th place team in the East Division if the 5th place team has a better record.
Each division champion faces the fourth place finisher from their division (or the crossover team should that team qualify for the playoffs). The second place finisher in each division faces the third place finisher from their division in the Division Semifinals. Each game is hosted by the higher-seeded team. The winners advance with the higher-seeded teams hosting the Divisional Finals. The winners of the Divisional Finals meet in the Championship Game, hosted by the team with the higher overall seeding.
