Santa Cruz Warriors Beat Idaho Stampede in Overtime

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Idaho Stampede 102-95 Friday night at the Kaiser Permanente Arena, bringing the Warriors to within one win of clinching a playoff spot.

The Warriors were led by Hilton Armstrong, who notched a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Griffin also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards, while Stefhon Hannah had 21 points and dished out a game-high eight assists.

Idaho was paced by Justin Holiday, who scored a game-high 25 points and extended his streak of two or more steals to 16 games in a row. Coby Karl added 21 points, while Justin Harper chipped in with a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Jason Ellis had a game-high 16 rebounds.

After leading by five at halftime, the Stampede held their largest lead 71-59 midway through the third quarter. Santa Cruz was down by nine to start the fourth, but a Scott Machado jumper ignited an 11-0 Warriors run, and the Warriors held Idaho to a 13 point fourth quarter to force overtime. Stefhon Hannah drained a three nine seconds into overtime and the Warriors never trailed.

Santa Cruz shot 45.9% from the field and held Idaho to 33.7%. Santa Cruz outrebounded Idaho (59-50) and dished out more assists (28-20), while Idaho had more steals (11-7) and bested the Warriors from the free-throw line (76.9%-69.2%).

The Warriors host the Texas Legends tomorrow (Saturday, March 23) at 7:00 p.m. in their second game of their five game homestand.
