Race for Brabham Cup heats up

The race for the Brabham Cup as ECHL regular-season champion, and home-ice advantage throughout the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs, has tightened up entering the final two weeks of the regular season.

The two-time defending Brabham Cup champion Alaska Aces lead the league with 99 points entering their final five games of the season. Alaska plays its final five games on the road, starting with a three-game series in Colorado on Wednesday.

Ontario, which has clinched its second consecutive Pacific Division title, is second in the league with 93 points. The Reign and Aces are the only two teams in the league to have at least 20 wins at home and on the road, and the two teams will end the regular season against one another in Ontario on March 29 and 30.

Idaho, which swept a three-game series in Anchorage against the Aces over the weekend, is third with 91 points. The Steelheads have gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, and have clinched at least the third seed in the Western Conference.

The Steelheads host the Reign in a three-game series in Boise this week. Idaho has won four of the six head-to-head meetings between the clubs so far this season.

Reading leads the Eastern Conference, and is fourth with 90 points, two points ahead of Cincinnati. The Royals have clinched a playoff berth for the fourth consecutive year, while the Cyclones are back in the postseason after narrowly missing out last season, and have clinched their first North Division title since 2009.

- Riley Gill has allowed one goal or less in five of his nine games with the Royals.

- Reading is 27-1-1 when scoring four or more goals in a game.

- The Royals are at Fort Wayne on Wednesday, Evansville on Friday and Toledo on Saturday and Sunday.

- Blake Kessel is tied for third among defensemen with 19 power-play points (2g-17a).

- The Titans are 21-5-3 when scoring first.

- Trenton visits Elmira on Wednesday and Sunday and hosts Wheeling on Friday and Saturday.

- Keven Veilleux has at least one point in nine of his last 11 games.

- Wheeling is first on the penalty kill at home at 89.2 percent (107-for-120).

- The Nailers host Kalamazoo on Wednesday and are at Trenton on Friday and Saturday and Kalamazoo on Sunday.

North Division

- David Pacan is second among rookies with 37 assists.

- The Cyclones are 21-10-5 against North Division opponents.

- Cincinnati is at Gwinnett on Wednesday, Florida on Friday and Saturday and Orlando on Sunday.

- Adam Pleskach has four assists in his first four games with the IceMen.

- Evansville is 3-1-1 in its last five home games.

- The IceMen are at Toledo on Wednesday and host Reading on Friday and Kalamazoo on Saturday.

- Kaleigh Schrock posted his second career hat trick on Saturday against Greenville.

- The Komets scored a season-high eight goals in an 8-5 win against Evansville on Sunday.

- Fort Wayne hosts Reading on Wednesday and is at Elmira on Friday and Saturday.

- John Armstrong is on an ECHL-season high 16-game point streak (6g-14a)

- Kalamazoo had a season-high crowd of 5,282 on Sunday against Greenville.

- The K-Wings visit Wheeling on Wednesday, host Toledo on Friday, are at Evansville on Saturday and host Wheeling on Sunday.

- Willie Coetzee has 20 points (6g-14a) in his last 15 games.

- The Walleye have scored at least one power play goal in seven of their last 10 games.

- Toledo hosts Evansville on Wednesday, is at Kalamazoo on Friday and hosts Reading on Saturday and Sunday.

South Division

- Mathieu Roy is fifth with 32 goals.

- The Everblades are third on the power play at 21.0 percent (59-for-281).

- Florida hosts Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday.

- Steve Mele and Ben Woodley bothj scored their first professional goals on Sunday at Kalamazoo.

- Greenville tied a team high with nine goals on Sunday.

- The Road Warriors are at Orlando on Wednesday and Thursday.

- Sacha Guimond leads defensemen with 46 points (12g-34a).

- The Gladiators are 35-4-2 when scoring first.

- Gwinnett hosts Cincinnati on Wednesday, is at South Carolina on Friday and hosts the Stingrays on Saturday.

- Nick McParland scored two goals in his pro debut on Sunday at Gwinnett.

- Orlando is 15-2-1 when leading after two periods.

- The Solar Bears host Greenville on Wednesday and Thursday and Cincinnati on Sunday.

- Peter Boyd is tied for second with five shootout goals.

- The Stingrays are third on the penalty kill at 84.8 percent (223-for-263).

- South Carolina hosts Gwinnett on Friday and visits the Gladiators on Saturday.

Mountain Division

- Nick Mazzolini is second with nine game-winning goals.

- The Aces are first with two shorthanded goals against.

- Alaska is at Colorado on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

- Adam Brown is fourth among rookies with a 2.45 goals-against average.

- Colorado is first on the power play at 22.9 percent (74-for-323).

- The Eagles host Alaska on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

- David de Kastrozza has established new career highs in games played (62), goals (19), assists (21) and points (40).

- The Steelheads leads the ECHL with 248 goals.

- Idaho hosts Ontario on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

- Nick Tuzzolino is fourth among defensemen with 29 assists.

- Utah is second with 33.54 shots per game.
