Border Cats Sign Five for 2013 NWL Season

The Thunder Bay Border Cats are proud to announce that outfielder Cory Kay and infielder/outfielder Tyler Duplantis will both be returning for their second season with the Northwoods League club in 2013.
Cory is following in the footsteps of his brother Brett Kay, who also played two years with the Border Cats in 2011-12, and was a two-time winner as the best defensive shortstop in the league and a 2012 NWL All Star. Cory is a sophomore at Harper College in Palatine, IL., after transferring from the University of Houston. The native of Arlington Heights, IL., played in 47 games for the Border Cats last season and batted .209 with eight doubles, four home runs and 18 runs batted in.
Duplantis is a junior at Nicholls State University in his hometown of Thibodaux, LA. The 6'1", 195 pounder joined the Cats during the second half of the 2012 season and hit .286 in 14 games with four RBI's.
The Cats have also signed Canadian shortstop Joey Hawkins, third baseman Jason Vosler and pitcher Jordan Church for the 2013 season. Hawkins, a native of Whitby, ON., was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 42nd round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. The 5'11", 165 pound infielder has played with the Ontario Blue Jays Junior team and has also spent time with the Canadian National Junior program. Hawkins is a sophomore at Missouri State University.
Vosler is a 6'1" lefthander hitter and is a sophomore at Boston's Northeastern University. The native of West Nyack, NY., played in 51 games last season with the Huskies and batted .312 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 43 runs batted in. Vosler was second on the team with 62 hits and captured Northeastern's "Rookie of the Year" award.
Church is a 6'7", 210 pound righthander from Round Rock, TX. He is currently a freshman at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.
The Border Cats play their 2013 home opener Saturday, June 1st, at 6:05 p.m. at Subway Field against the Willmar Stingers.
