Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that import defensive end Jammie Kirlew and import defensive back Chip Vaughn have signed with the team. Financial details of the contracts were not released.
Kirlew (6'1 - 260) comes to Saskatchewan after spending two seasons in the NFL. After being originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 7th round (232nd overall) in the 2010 draft, the Tarrytown, NY native attended training camp and saw action in one pre-season game. He was subsequently released and immediately picked up by the Buffalo Bills where he spent the remainder of the season on the practice squad. In 2011, the Indiana graduate signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars recording no stats in one regular season appearance before spending the remainder of the year on the practice squad.
While at Indiana, Kirlew was a three year starter twice earning the Anthony Thompson Team MVP Award and was four time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Vaughn (6'2 - 221) joins the Riders after spending three seasons in the NFL. The Wake Forest graduate was originally drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 4th round (116th overall) of the 2009 draft, but missed the entire season after being placed on injured reserve following training camp. The 27-year-old spent part of the next season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad before joining the Indianapolis Colts, playing three regular season games and registering one tackle.
- The Riders also announced they have released import linebacker Chris Ellis.
