Sky Partners with Buick & Samaritans Feet for NWGSD EventFebruary 5, 2013 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Chicago Sky
Sky forward Tamera Young will assist in the distribution of shoes for the third through eighth grade girls who were selected to participate in the event by Girls in the Game, a nonprofit organization that provides and promotes sports and fitness opportunities for girls, and Polished Pebbles, a mentoring program that helps girls communicate effectively.
At the event, the girls will have their feet washed and receive a new pair of socks and shoes while spending time with Young and having lunch provided by Buick.
"It is unfathomable that so many of our city's children are in need of something as simple as shoes," said Chicago Sky president and CEO Adam Fox. "The Chicago Sky is proud to be working again with Samaritan's Feet to help make a difference in the lives of three hundred kids and provide them with the basic equipment they need to participate in sports."
One in five children in the United States lives in poverty and their prospects for superior performance and success in higher education are endangered by circumstance. This is an unnecessary reality and why Samaritan's Feet, Buick and the Chicago Sky are working together to empower the underprivileged with the basic necessities of new shoes and socks.
"We're so thankful for our ongoing partnership with Buick and the Chicago Sky who make it possible for us to serve local children in need," says Manny Ohonme, Founder & CEO of Samaritan's Feet. "Serving those in need through our Shoes of Hope program is a great opportunity to bring hope and relief to those struggling financially during these tough economic times. We are extremely grateful for the local volunteers joining the over 80,000 servant-leaders globally who have donated their time and energy to give back to those in need through Samaritan's Feet."
