Santa Cruz Warriors Topped by Armor

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Despite a second half surge, the Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Springfield Armor 111-100 Saturday night.Every Santa Cruz Warriors player on the active roster scored in Saturday's game. The Warriors were led by Moe Baker and Darington Hobson, who each scored 15 points, while Hilton Armstrong added 14. Armstrong and Hobson each grabbed seven rebounds, while Hobson also dished out five assists.
The Springfield Armor were paced by Tyshawn Taylor, on assignment from the Brooklyn Nets, who scored a game-high 26 points. Tornike Shengelia, also on assignment from the Nets, logged a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Willie Reed had the other double-double of the night with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
The Springfield Armor held the lead for the entire game, with the exception of a 16-16 tie with 5:17 left in the first quarter. The Armor held their largest lead of 24 points with 3:00 left in the first half. Through the second half, the Warriors battled back, cutting Springfield's lead to as little as five off two Darington Hobson free throws with 2:36 left in the fourth quarter. The Armor went on a 10-4 run to close out the game and win by 11.
Springfield won the rebound battle (47-35) and out-shot Santa Cruz (49.4%-43.8%). The Armor scored more points in the paint (58-48) and scored six more fast break points than the Warriors.
The Warriors have five more games to play away from the Kaiser Permanente Arena on this road trip. Santa Cruz will tip-off next against the Texas Legends at 5:00 p.m. PST on Friday, February 1.
