January 21, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (January 21, 2013) - The Quad City Mallards' Mickey Lang has been named Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the CHL.

Lang erupted for a natural hat trick and a total of six points in the Mallards' 7-1 rout of the Denver Cutthroats last Saturday night at the i wireless Center. Lang scored the first three Mallard goals, assisted on the next three and finished the evening with a plus/minus rating of +3. Lang broke loose for what was his first career hat trick and the most points recorded in a CHL game this season one night after picking up an assist in the Mallards' 4-3 loss to the Fort Worth Brahmas.

"Mickey's played very well for us all season but he really got on a roll Saturday," said Mallards coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "He's a very good skater, can really shoot the puck and has some good chemistry with [linemates Mike] Hellyer and [Mike] Stinziani and we saw all of that Saturday night."

On the season, Lang ranks third in the league in goals (22), is tied for fourth in points (47) and is tied for tenth in assists (25). In addition, the 26-year old Reno, Nevada, native is tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals (3) and is now tied for fifth in power play goals (6) after scoring twice on the man advantage last Saturday. Last Saturday's outburst also extended Lang's point-scoring streak to eight games (7-7-14), matching his own mark for the longest such streak by a Mallard this season.

Lang's six-point game was the first for a Mallard in just over six years since Luke Stauffacher registered a half dozen points on December 30, 2006 in a 7-4 Mallard victory over the Generals in Flint.

This is not the first time Lang, who scored 19 goals and totaled 40 points in 61 games as a rookie last season, has earned league-wide recognition. Lang capped off his first professional campaign by earning CHL Rookie of the Month and CHL Oakley First Star honors for March.

Lang spent four seasons at Division III Manhattanville College before turning pro. He scored 16 times and produced 27 points in 24 games as a senior in 2010-11. In 88 career collegiate games, Lang notched 47 goals and 93 points.

Tickets for the January 29 game- as well as seats for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- can be purchased in person at the i wireless Center ticket office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
