HOT START TO THE NEW YEAR

Chicago has posted a 5-2-0-1 mark since the calendar turned to 2013 and has moved into seventh place in the Western Conference playoff standings with 43 points through 37 games this year (19-13-3-2); the Wolves 37 games are the fewest games played in the conference and they hold at least two games in hand on 12 of the other 14 teams.

WOLVES HEADLINES

--- DARREN HAYDAR: Paced Chicago with 4 assists and 6 points in three games last week, which included posting a team season-best 4 points (2G, 2A) on Friday ... Ranks first on the Wolves with 18 assists and second on the team with 25 points in 32 games this season ... Has averaged 1.16 points per game over his last 19 matchups and has tallied 10 points (2G, 8A) during a current six-game point streak ... Moved past right wing Zellio Toppazzini and into 13th place on the AHL's all-time assist register with his helper on Saturday ... He has amassed 756 points (279G, 477A) in 741 career AHL tilts

--- ANDREW GORDON: Notched a goal and an assist in Friday's and Saturday's contests after rejoining the Wolves from Canucks training camp ... Ranks second on the squad with 11 markers and third with 19 points in 33 games this season ... Bagged 6 goals and 9 points in his last seven tilts, which includes 3 goals and 5 points during a current three-game point streak

--- BILL SWEATT: Tallied a short-handed goal and a power-play marker in Saturday's 3-1 win over Houston, his first goals in 12 outings ... Shares fourth on Chicago with 6 goals and has notched 11 points in 29 games this season ... Accrued 3 points (2G, A) in his last three tilts after posting 3 points (G, 2A) in his previous 10 games

--- BRETT STERLING: Named to his fourth AHL All-Star game last week ...

Paces the club with 15 markers and 28 points in 32 games this season ...

Ranks third on the team with 13 assists and is tied for first on Chicago with a +10 plus/minus rating ... His two-goal performance on Wednesday moved him past Rob Brown and into second place on the Wolves all-time goal scoring register with 158 tallies ... Amassed 6 goals and 10 points in seven games since 2013 was ushered in

WOLF TRACKS

--- The Wolves have tallied at least one man-advantage marker in 10 of their last 12 games, including six straight from Dec. 30 to Jan. 12; Chicago has converted at a 28.9 percent clip on the power play over its last 12 tilts (13 of 45); the team, which ranked 30th in the league at the beginning of December, shares 15th in the AHL with a 16.3 conversion rate on the man-advantage (24 of 147).

--- Goaltender MATT CLIMIE set a franchise record on Jan. 16 for longest shutout streak by a goaltender by going 173:57 without allowing a goal; he broke Kari Lehtonen's streak of 170:54 that stood since November, 2004.

--- The Wolves have been shorthanded just 134 times this season, the fewest in the AHL; the team shares 27th in the AHL with a 79.9 efficiency rating on the penalty kill (107 of 134), but has surrendered just nine power-play goals on 55 chances since Dec. 1 (83.6%).

--- Chicago has won five of its last six games and has surrendered just six goals in those five victories, but allowed six markers in its one defeat during that span.

--- Chicago visits Peoria on Wednesday and Rockford on Friday before heading to its All-Star Break; the Wolves, who haven't faced a Midwest Division opponent since Jan. 5, has posted just a 7-9-3-2 mark against Midwest Division foes this season.

--- Wolves left wing BILL SWEATT bagged a pair of second-period goals to propel the team to a 3-1 win over the Houston Aeros at the Allstate Arena

--- Right wing ANDREW GORDON (ENG, A) also collected multiple points

--- Goaltender JOE CANNATA kicked out 21 shots in his third AHL start

Friday, Jan. 18 Texas 6, (at) Chicago 4

--- The Wolves fell into a 2-0 hole three minutes into the contest and that proved to be the difference as they fell 6-4 to the Texas Stars at the Allstate Arena

--- Right wing DARREN HAYDAR (2G, 2A) led a pack of four Wolves who notched multiple points

--- Goaltenders MATT CLIMIE (7 of 11) and JOE CANNATA (12 of 14) split time in CANNATA's loss

Wednesday, Jan. 16 (at) Chicago 4, Texas 1

--- The Wolves used a two-goal performance from BRETT STERLING to notch a 4-1 win over the Texas Stars at the Allstate Arena

--- Forwards STEFAN SCHNEIDER and MICHAEL DAVIES also scored for Chicago

--- Goaltender MATT CLIMIE stopped 19 of 20 shots
