Tomahawks Fall to Port Huron in Shootout, 3-2

Johnstown and Port Huron exchanged the lead four times, but Port Huron used goals from Easton Powers and Ian Miller in the shootout to defeat the Tomahawks, 3-2, on Friday Night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
The goaltending was solid, with Alex Blankenburg stopping 36 of 38 in regulation and all four shooters in the shootout for the win. Colin Brennan stopped 25 of 27 in regulation and two of four in the shootout for the loss.
Both teams were effective on the penalty kill with Johnstown (17-11-9) killing its lone penalty, which came on a Connor Wright tripping call in the third period. Port Huron (17-19-3) stopped all five of Johnstown's chances in the game.
For the 24th time this season, the Tomahawks scored first as Casey Nelson's shot slid past the left post at 3:51 of the first period. Cody Gylling added an assist on the goal, while extending his team lead in points and assists (8-19-27).
Port Huron would tie the game later in the period on Easton Powers' fourth goal of the season at 16:39.
The Tomahawks regained the lead on Zach Wallace's goal at 5:55 of the third period. It was Wallace's third goal of the season and first since Nov. 10 against Kalamazoo.
Ian Miller's goal at 10:18 evened the score at two. Miller now has four points (2-2-4) in five games against Johnstown this season.
Both Mitch Hall, a defenseman who the Tomahawks acquired from the Jamestown Ironmen in exchange for a future draft pick, and Dakoda Menslage, a temporary call up from the North American Tier III Hockey League who is tendered with Johnstown, made their debuts with Johnstown.
Johnstown is now 2-for-5 in the shootout this season while Port Huron improved their record to 5-for-3.
The Tomahawks look to snap their five-game losing streak as they complete their two-game series against Port Huron Saturday night at 7 P.M. before welcoming the Soo Eagles to the War Memorial Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M.
