Nathan Lieuwen Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Greenville, SC: Road Warriors' rookie netminder Nathan Lieuwen has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for December 10-16.

The 21-year-old went 2-0-0 with one shutout, a 0.50 goals-against average and a save percentage of .983 in two appearances last week helping the Road Warriors extend their winning streak to four games.

Lieuwen made 26 saves to record his first pro shutout in a 6-0 win at South Carolina on Tuesday and followed that up with 31 saves in a 3-1 victory against Gwinnett on Thursday. He had a shutout streak of 147:20 snapped with 36 seconds remaining in the game.

A native of Abbotsford,"ˆBritish Columbia, Lieuwen has appeared in 19 games for Greenville this season posting a record of 10-7-1 with one shutout, a 3.01 goals-against average and a save percentage of .900. He ranks third in the ECHL with 506 saves and is fourth with 1,116 minutes played.

Under contract to the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League, Lieuwen spent the previous five seasons with Kootenay of the Western"ˆHockey League. He appeared in 178 career games with the Ice posting an overall record of 85-59-15 with nine shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .903.
