Chicago Mustangs News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL. The Chicago Mustangs (3-2-0) stay unbeaten at home after defeating the Illinois Piasa (1-6-0) by a score of 15-8. The series between these two teams is 2-0 in favor of the Mustangs.

The game started with an attacking Illinois Piasa team surprising the Chicago Mustangs only two minutes into the first quarter when the Piasa took what would be their only lead on a score by Blake Ordell. The Mustangs took a few minutes to adjust but bounced back with a goal by Nestor Hernández at the 7-minute mark. The Mustangs struck again with a minute and a half left when Omar Tapia gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead, a lead they would not give up. In the second quarter the Mustangs turned it on and brought the game to 7-3 at half time.

The beginning of the second half looked a lot like the end of the first with two Mustangs' goals giving our guys a comfortable 9-3 lead. But in soccer nothing is final as the Piasa took advantage of a few defensive errors and fought back to a two-goal game. A goal by Omar Santillán in the 14th minute put the Mustangs up 10-7 at the end of 3 quarters.

The Mustangs galloped into the fourth quarter and scored five goals (Tapia-2, Vaca and Hernández-2) to close out the Piasa with a final score of 15-8.

The Chicago Mustangs will play their next two games at home at the Grand Sports Arena (Hoffman Estates) on December 23th at 1:30 PM against the Texas Strikers then against Rio Grande Valley on Friday, December 28th at 8 PM.
