Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON (Friday, December 14, 2012) - The Belleville Bulls are a busy group this time of year, but they aren't too busy to share in the Christmas spirit with the kids at Belleville General Hosptial.
Steeped in a set of three games in four nights after a 2-0 win in Ottawa on Wednesday, the Bulls got off the ice after practice on Thursday afternoon and headed to the Belleville General Hospital's Children's Treatment Centre.
With teddy bears in hand, the players visited with children throughout the ward suffering from various illnesses and life altering circumstances this Christmas. Some of the Bulls also took a gander through the hospital's Delivery and Pediatrics wards to see the kids.
"Talk about an eye opener," said Bulls captain Brendan Gaunce of the Thursday visit. "As strong, healthy young men we take so much for granted. It's times like these that you're reminded how much we really have and how grateful we should be each and every day to be able to play the game we love."
Gaunce and the rest of his Bulls teammates distributed some of the teddy bears collected at this month's Teddy Bear Toss night against the Kingston Frontenacs. "Seeing the kids faces as we came through the door was priceless," Gaunce continued. "Events like this almost inspire you to get up even more for your next game when you're reminded how fortunate you are."
Bulls Community Events Coordinator Erica Holgate was taken back by the tremendous interaction between the players and children on hand. "You can tell that our players are giants in the eyes of these kids, even though they may not realize it. It's touching to see them having this much of an impact and sharing so much joy with the little ones who aren't otherwise in great situations this Christmas. It was a great time."
The Bulls are in action Friday and Saturday this weekend as they'll visit the Oshawa Generals before returning home to wrap up the first half of their season against the Mississauga Steelheads at 7:05pm. The Bulls are collecting non-perishable food offerings to be donated to Gleaner's Food Bank on Saturday night. Donations bins will be located throughout the main concourse.
