Houston Aeros Blow Past Rampage 5-1

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros (13-7-1-2, 29 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (10-12-0-3, 23 points) 5-1 on Tuesday in front of 8,573 fans at Toyota Center. Forwards Nick Palmieri, Jared Palmer and David McIntyre each scored and added an assist, as Houston pulled away in the third period for the four-goal win. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (10-6-2) stopped 20 of 21 shots, ending San Antonio's four-game winning streak. Charlie Coyle and Kris Foucault also scored, as Houston won for the seventh time in the last eight outings. Rampage goalie Jacob Markstrom (8-7-1) stopped 25 of 30 in the defeat. Houston will head to Charlotte for a pair of games, starting Friday at 6:00 p.m. (CT) at Time Warner Cable Arena.

For the eighth straight game, Houston opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead. At 11:35 of the first period, winger Kris Foucault found a loose puck in the Rampage crease and knocked it in for his fourth goal of the season. Forwards Jared Palmer and Johan Larsson each had an assist on the only goal of the first period.

The Aeros made it 2-0 just 36 seconds into the second period, as Charlie Coyle scored his ninth goal of the season. Center Mikael Granlund found defenseman Marco Scandella at the point. The Houston defenseman snapped a wrist shot to the San Antonio net, allowing Coyle to tip the puck past Jacob Markstrom for the two-goal lead. The Rampage cut the Aeros lead in half prior to the end of the period, as Greg Rallo tallied his tenth goal of the season at 19:29. Rallo tipped a shot from the blueline by Colby Robak, beating Matt Hackett for the 2-1 score.

In the third, the Aeros reclaimed their two-goal lead at 13:38 of the final frame. David McIntyre played the puck to the Rampage net, setting up Nick Palmieri down low. Palmieri lifted a backhand shot past Markstrom for a 3-1 Houston lead. Justin Fontaine added an assist on Palmieri's seventh goal of the season. Houston continued to increase its lead at 15:36, as Palmieri set up David Mcinytre for a redirection past Markstrom and a 4-1 lead. Chay Genoway also added an assist on McIntyre's sixth goal of the season. The Aeros concluded the scoring at 18:31 with Palmer's first goal of the season. The Houston forward picked off an outlet pass and fired a shot past Markstrom for the 5-1 final score.

The Aeros will play a pair of games in Charlotte this Friday at 6:00 p.m.(CT) and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (CT). Houston returns home on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 5:05 p.m. to host Oklahoma City at Toyota Center. On Dec. 16, Houston will hold its yearly Teddy Bear Toss for charity. Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to throw on the ice once the Aeros score their first goal of the night. Every Sunday throughout the season is Family Day, where fans may purchase four tickets, parking and four Aeros prizes starting at $54.
