Stamps Mourn Death of Bill Goods

The Calgary Stampeder Football Club is mourning the death of alumnus Bill Goods, who passed away on Dec. 6 after a long battle with cancer. He was 70 years old.
The Drumheller native played three seasons with the Stampeders (1965-67) and later served as an executive in the Stamps' alumni association, helping raise funds for minor football in Southern Alberta. During his career with Calgary, Goods played primarily as a fullback but he also handled place-kicking duties in 1967. He went on to play one season for both the Saskatchewan Roughriders (1968) Edmonton Eskimos (1969).
In three seasons with the Stampeders, he rushed for 339 yards and scored two touchdowns. In 1967, he kicked for 70 points.
Prior to joining the Stampeders, Goods starred for the football teams at Calgary's Queen Elizabeth High School, Mount Royal College and the University of Tulsa.
Goods returned to Calgary after his playing career and worked as a teacher for the Calgary Board of Education before entering the business world. He retired in 1993 as vice-president of sales with Motorola Canada.
He is survived by Dian, his wife of 48 years, as well as son Bill Jr., daughters Katheryn and Kim and six grandchildren. A celebration of Goods' life will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel (3220 4th St. NW) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
