MacQueen, Patterson Shine in Cutthroats 5-1 Win

DENVER - Jamie MacQueen and Luke Fulghum led the offense with three-point nights and Kent Patterson made 32 saves in net as the Denver Cutthroats topped the Bloomington Blaze in a 5-1 final on Wednesday at Denver Coliseum.

Denver's Brad Smyth extended his point streak to four games with an assist. The Cutthroats (9-7-1) pulled themselves into a fourth place tie in the Central Hockey League (Rapid City, Arizona) with the win and are now 4-0-1 in their last five contests.

The Cutthroats took control of the game in the opening period as Fulghum started the scoring at 9:17 finding a rebound in front of the net. Ben Wilson then made it a 2-0 lead for the Fish on another loose puck in front of the net with 7:27 to play. Brett Lutes then found the scoresheet after forcing a turnover at center ice to score on a shorthanded breakaway with 5:26 left in the frame. The goal was the first shorthanded tally in franchise history for the Cutthroats.

MacQueen tallied his first of the night on the power play just 1:26 into period two for his fourth of the season. Fulghum and Joel Chouinard recorded the assists to make it a 4-0 lead for Denver over the Blaze (10-6-1).

MacQueen was at it again early in the third as his wrist shot from the right circle bounced off the crossbar for his second of the night at 2:33. David Gilbert scored Bloomington's only goal of the game on a tip-in effort at 8:33.

The Cutthroats finished 1-for-4 on the power play while the Blaze went 0-for-5. Denver was outshot 33-32 in the game. It was just the second win of the season for the Fish when being outshot by their opponent.

Postgame Notes:

Fulghum now has 398 points in his professional career. Brett Lutes is three games away from the 400 mark in his pro career. The Cutthroats have scored a power play goal in each of their last six contests. The Cutthroats home record improves to 8-3-0 on the season.
