Amarillo Bulls News Release

ODESSA, TX - The Amarillo Bulls scored eight consecutive goals to erase a 3-0 early first period deficit, and went on to blow out the Odessa Jackalopes 8-3 on Saturday night at Ector County Coliseum.

It was the Bulls 17th of the season and it moved them sole possession of first place in the South Division as the Topeka RoadRunners nipped Texas to tie for 2nd place. The RoadRunners and the Tornado have one more game in their series on Sunday evening.

"We didn't start off the game great," said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. "We were at a point where they had three goals on three shots. It wasn't because of a lack of effort but due to bad net front presence. It was a good effort by our guys to respond and fight their way back."

"Many teams would have packed it in when it was 3-0, but we showed great leadership. During a time-out, I didn't say anything and our captain John Rey spoke to the group and got them going."

It was a wild opening period as teams traded a total of six goals. The Jackalopes skates well in the first eight minutes and scored three goals on five shots. Collin Delia started the game and was pulled for Paul Berrafato who surrendered the third goal. After that the Bulls outshot the Jackalopes 14-1 in the final 11 minutes and scored three times.

Tyler Gernhofer started it on a power play goal from TJ Sarcona and Connor Frey at 12:25. Three minutes later, the Bulls pulled to within one when John Rey's blast found the back of the net from TJ Sherman and Mike Davis. With less than a minute remaining in the period, Omar Mullan stole the puck off a Jackalopes defenseman's stick and backhanded the puck past Heinlee and the game was tied. The Bulls outshot the Jackalopes 24-6.

"That was a big goal by Omar Mullan," said Williams. "From then on our locker room was pumping. There wasn't a lot of coaching just guys making plays. They did a really nice job I thought."

The second period was all for the Bulls as they fired 27 shots on net and scored twice. TJ Sherman gave the Bulls a 4-3 advantage when he scored via the power play from Tyler Gernhofer and Omar Mullan. Six minutes later, Amarillo added another when Matt Sieckhaus scored from Garrett Peterson and Tyler Deresky.

The Bulls' penalty killing got into the scoring act in the third period with consecutive shorthanded goals to give them four for the year. Tyler Deresky scored from TJ Sarcona and Joe Grabowski. Less than a minute later, Ryan Cole scored from Mike Davis. Carter Penzien rounded out the scoring when he fired a shot past the goaltender. Omar Mullan and Conor Jonasson picked up the assists.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 67-18 including 16-6 in the third period. The 67 shots is a new record for the Amarillo Bulls. There were 12 total power plays with the Bulls going 2 for 8 while Odessa was 1 for 4.

Box Score - Amarillo 8 - Odessa 3
