Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - Sebastian Trudeau scored in the eleventh round of penalty shots- after also scoring and adding an assist in regulation- and David Gilbert produced a goal and three assists in regulation to give the host Bloomington Blaze a dramatic 5-4 shootout win over the Quad City Mallards Friday night.

It was the Mallards- who did earn one point for their considerable efforts- who first grabbed the shootout lead when Mike Stinziani converted the second Quad City penalty shot. Steve Makway forced sudden death in the shootout by scoring on the Blaze's fifth and final regulation penalty shot. Both teams scored in round six with Gilbert pushing the Mallards to the brink only for Jeremy Boyer to respond with a goal that kept the Quad City alive- if only until Trudeau's coup de grace.

Dan Dunn stopped nine penalty shots in the Bloomington net after making 25 saves in regulation to just outlast Quad City's John Murray, who made eight shootout saves after turning aside 36 shots over 65 minutes.

The Mallards battled from behind twice in the third period just to force overtime and, as it would prove, the shootout. The Blaze were on the brink of a regulation win before Patrick Levesque- who also had an assist- scored from the doorstep to deadlock the game at four with just 1:22 left in the third period. Up until that point the Blaze had successfully protected a 4-3 lead given to them when Trudeau pounced on a rebound at 6:58 of the third. The Mallards had entered the final period of regulation down 3-2 but tied the game at the 3:18 mark when Darren McMillan snapped in the second Quad City power play goal of the night from the right wing circle.

The Blaze themselves had overcome a 2-0 deficit with three straight second period goals. Gilbert jammed in Bloomington's first goal at 6:53 of the second. Tyler Gron evened the score at two from the right wing circle at 10:01. The Blaze was up 5-on-3 when Jesse Dudas dramatically give Bloomington the lead for the first time with a one-timer from the top of the left wing circle with just over 24 seconds left in the period.

The Mallards took a 1-0 lead when Obi Aduba- who also notched an assist- buried Levesque's centering pass at 10:54 of the first period. Levesque doubled the Mallard advantage by wristing a power play goal home from the high slot at 16:50 of the first. Jason Dixon provided one of his three assists on that goal.
