Gladiators move to top of South Division

Playing four games in five days last week, the Gwinnett Gladiators picked up three wins to move to the top of the South Division standings with an overall record of 4-3-1 for nine points.

The Gladiators opened the week with a 3-0 win at Evansville on Wednesday. Rylan Galiardi scored two goals and Mike Lee made 17 saves to record his first professional shutout.

On Friday, Gwinnett doubled up Fort Wayne 4-2. Evan Bloodoff led the way offensively for the Gladiators scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist while Doug Jones and Tony Lucia each added a goal and an assist.

Gwinnett suffered its lone loss of the week on Saturday, falling to the Komets 1-0 despite outshooting Fort Wayne 43-30.

The Gladiators ended their trip with a 5-2 win at Evansville on Sunday. Chris Clackson (1g-2a) and Casey Pierro-Zabotel (0g-3a) each had three-point games in the win and Ryan Zapolski earned the win in goal, turning aside 29 IceMen shots.

Pierro-Zabotel leads the Gladiators, and is second overall in the league, with 12 points (2g-10a), and his 10 assists are tops in the league, while ranking second in plus-minus at +7.

Jones leads all ECHL rookies with five goals and 10 points, while fellow rookie Christain Ouellet is tied for first among first-year players with two game-winning goals.

This week, the Gladiators are home for three games, hosting Orlando on Thursday, Elmira on Friday and South Carolina on Sunday.

Oct. 29, 2010 - Trenton's Dave Caruso sets the ECHL record for saves in a game, turning aside 67 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss against Gwinnett.

Oct. 30, 1993 - Toledo Storm goaltender Erin Whitten makes hockey history when she becomes the first woman to record a win in a professional hockey game. The Storm defeated the Dayton Bombers 6-5.

Nov. 1, 1991 - Joe Ernst referees his first ECHL game as the Columbus Chill host the Erie Panthers. Ernst would go on to work as a referee in an ECHL record 1,061 regular-season games and over 200 postseason games. He was the first official inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame in 2011.

Nov. 3, 2007 - Dayton's Chanse Fitzpatrick sets an ECHL record with five goals, including four on the power play, in the third period of a 5-1 win against Trenton . Fitzpatrick set the ECHL record for power-play goals in a period while tying the league mark for goals in a period and power-play goals in a game.

Atlantic Division

- Artem Demkov 's four-game goal streak (5G) is a career high.

- Scott Wietecha leads defensemen with 28 shots on goal.

- Reading is fourth on the penalty kill at home at 93.3 percent (14-for-15).

- The Royals are at Trenton on Fridady and host the Titans on Saturday.

- Marcel Noebels is tied for first among rookies with six assists.

- The Titans are second in the Eastern Conference with 25 goals.

- Trenton hosts Reading on Friday and visits the Royals on Saturday.

- Cody Wild is tied for fifth among defensemen with six points (1g-5a).

- Bobby Farnham is tied for third among rookies with three goals.

- The Nailers host Toledo on Thursday, and are at Evansville on Friday and Cincinnati on Saturday.

North Division

- Cincinnati is 3-0-0 when Garrett Wilson scores a goal.

- The Cyclones are the only team in the ECHL to be unbeaten in regulation (3-0-2).

- Cincinnati hosts Kalamazoo on Wednesday, visits the K-Wings on Friday and hosts Wheeling on Saturday.

- Trent Vogelhuber tallied assists in each of the last two games.

- Todd Robinson is four assists shy of 900 in his pro career.

- The IceMen host Wheeling on Friday and are at Toledo on Saturday.

- Charlie Effinger stopped all 43 shots he faced on Saturday for his first win of the season.

- The Komets are third on the penalty kill at 94.1 percent (32-for-34).

- Fort Wayne is at Toledo on Friday and at Kalamazoo on Saturday.

- Joel Martin is second with a 1.23 goals-against average. - Kalamazoo is 4-0-0 when scoring first.

- The K-Wings travel to Cincinnati on Wednesday, and host the Cyclones on Friday and Fort Wayne on Saturday.

- Kyle Rogers has tied Evan Rankin for the most games played in Walleye history (143).

- The Walleye have outscored opponents 9-3 in the last two games. - Toledo is at Wheeling on Thursday, and hosts Fort Wayne on Friday and Evansville on Saturday.

South Division

- Taylor Ellington is tied for second among defensemen with five assists.

- Everblades are fourth with 3.71 goals per game.

- Florida is at Greenville on Saturday and Sunday.

- Shayne Wiebe is on a four-game goal streak since Oct. 20 (4g).

- Greenville has three players among the top 20 in goals.

- The Road Warriors host Orlando on Friday and Florida on Saturday and Sunday.

- Dallas Jackson is second among defensemen with 26 shots on goal.

- The Gladiators are 2-0-0 when outshot by their opponents.

- Gwinnett hosts Orlando on Thursday, Elmira on Saturday and South Carolina on Sunday.

- Nick Petersen scored the first hat trick in the Solar Bears ECHL history on Thursday against South Carolina.

- Orlando has taken 40 or more shots on goal in three of its six games.

- The Solar Bears are at South Carolina on Tuesday and Saturday, at Gwinnett on Thursday and at Greenville on Friday.

- Tyler McNeely is tied for second in the ECHL with three power-play goals.
