Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Syracuse Crunch potted three goals in the opening frame on their way to a 3-1 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
For the third straight game, the Penguins found themselves in an early hole as their first period struggles continued against the Crunch.
Syracuse sped ahead to a 1-0 edge at 3:38 of the first as Ondrej Palat guided a pass through the slot that found a pinching Keith Aulie for the redirect into the top corner.
A boarding major and game misconduct assessed to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton late in the same period gave the Crunch five minutes of power play time and a chance to pad their lead.
Cory Conacher first cashed in on the ensuing man-advantage at 16:03 to double Syracuse's lead. Less than two minutes later, Tyler Johnson rifled a one-timer from the far circle that beat Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff to the post and gave the Crunch a 3-0 cushion heading into the intermission.
Philippe Dupuis ended Syracuse's shutout bid with an extra-attacker power play goal, coming with 1:57 remaining in regulation.
Zatkoff made 17 saves in net for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, while Crunch goalie Dustin Tokarski stopped 20-of-21.
The Penguins are back on the ice on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7:05PM as they face the Rochester Americans. Individual seats for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com, and by calling 800-745-3000.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton season ticket packages, including Full Season, 22-game, 12-game and Flexbook plans, are available by contacting the Penguins directly at 570-208-7367.
