
Kay Wins Pair of NWL Awards

Thunder Bay Border Cats shortstop Brett Kay was a double winner as the Northwoods League announced its post season awards on Friday. For the second consecutive year, Kay won the Rawlings "Finest in the Field" Award as the top defensive shortstop in the NWL.
The native of Arlington Heights, IL., compiled a .963 fielding percentage by making just 13 errors in 64 games during the 2012 season. As well, Kay captured the Rawlings "Big Stick" Award as the top offensive shortstop in the 16-team league. Kay hit .320 with one home run, 14 doubles, three triples and 30 runs batted in. He led the Cats with 77 hits, 49 runs scored, and was second with 21 stolen bases.
Kay was the only double award winner named to both Rawlings teams.
The 21-year old is wrapping his collegiate career this season at Illinois State University.
