Chicago Steel News Release

BENSENVILLE, Ill.- Christian Heil scored two goals and Alex Sakellaropoulos turned away 44 shots for Chicago on Saturday as the Steel beat the Tri-City Storm, 4-2, at The Edge Ice Arena.

Chicago starts the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 season, when it won its first three games out of the gate.

The Steel fell behind in the first period after Tri-City's Trevor Moore scored at the 1:15 mark into the game. Thomas Ebbing tied the game at 18:35 in the period and the game was tied 1-all going into the intermission.

In the second period, the Storm jumped ahead when Garrett Gamez put one past Sakellaropoulos at the 7:10 mark. The Steel responded just over four minutes later on a power play goal by Phillip Marinaccio. Marinaccio's goal energized the Steel and Heil scored his first of the game, 53 seconds later. In the third, Heil notched his second goal at the 18:28 mark. The 4-2 deficit proved too much for Tri-City to overcome and the Steel won their second straight game to start the 2012-13 campaign.

Steel special teams shut down all five of Tri-City's power play opportunities. The Storm outshot Chicago, 46-42, in the game.

Mackenzie MacEachern provided two assists in the contest for Chicago, while teammates Christian Neumann, Heil, Alex Roos, Jaccob Slavin, Charlie O'Connor and Johnny Wingels all had one assist.

Chicago is back at The Edge next Friday for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Steel Ticket Office at 630-594-1161 or by visiting tickets.chicagosteelhockeyteam.com.
