New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The Jackals lost their first 1-0 decision all season, dropping game four of the 2012 Can-Am Championship Series on a gorgeous Sunday at Yogi Berra Stadium. They must now win three straight games against the Capitales.

For the second straight day, Quebec used a late, two-out, bases-empty rally to push across the game winning run. Yesterday they scored two runs in a 3-3 game in the ninth.

In the eighth inning this afternoon, Rene Leveret worked a walk, Josue Peley followed with a single, and veteran Ivan Naccarata lined one to right field off Jake Hale to bring in the game's only run.

Hale had thrown 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the Capitales this series, but earns the loss in his first decision of the postseason.

Down 1-0 in the ninth, Nick Giarraputo worked a lead off single off closer T.J. Stanton, but pinch runner and tying run Gaetano Giunta would get stranded at second to preserve the 1-0 win.

Stanton has saved all three Capitales wins this series.

Both starting pitchers were effective. Kyle Greenwalt worked around a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fourth inning en route to 6 2/3 scoreless frames. Off eight-days rest, Greenwalt takes the no-decision.

Fresh off the disabled list and making his first start since August 16th, Jamie Richmond blanked New Jersey through 5 2/3 to earn the no-decision.

New Jersey's best chance to score came in the sixth inning. As part of his 2-4 day, Bryan Sabatella tripled to lead off the frame. With the infield drawn in, Francisco Caraballo grounded out to second, Giarraputo lined out to short, and Matt Cusick grounded out to short to keep the game scoreless.

The Jackals were 0-8 with runners in scoring position this afternoon.

The Capitales are one win away from their fourth straight Can-Am League title. Tomorrow will be a rematch of the aces. Isaac Pavlik (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will oppose Pitcher of the Year Jeff Duda (0-1, 5.40 ERA). Advantage Pavlik from game one when the lefty allowed just an unearned run through six innings in a 6-2 New Jersey win.

The Jackals were 11-0 during the regular season when Pavlik started following a loss.

First pitch of tomorrow's game five is scheduled for 7:05. The pregame show begins seven minutes prior. Get your tickets by visiting Jackals.com or by calling (973) 746-7434.
