Great Falls Voyagers News Release
MISSOULA - The Great Falls Voyagers (1-0) missed early opportunities at Ogren Park Allegiance Field and the Missoula Osprey (1-0) took game one of the best-of-three North Division Championship Series 8-3 Friday night. The decision gave the Osprey a crucial win in the only game of the series in Missoula. The Voyagers now are able to return home with a chance to defend their home turf for games two and three.
The Voyagers got runners on in each of the first two innings but couldn't get the big hit and left three on going into the bottom of the second. After a very strong, 1-2-3 first, an error behind Chris Beck (0-1) opened the floodgates in the second as Missoula took an early 5-0 lead. The Voyagers had a bounty of opportunities to chip into the lead, but failed to bring in more than a single run before the seventh en route to leave nine runners on base. The eighth inning was the first time the Voyagers failed to get a runner on base, but no rally seriously threatened the Missoula lead as the Voyagers fell 8-3.
The Voyagers must now win the remaining two games to advance to the Pioneer League Championship Series. Fortunately, both games will be played at Centene Stadium, so the Osprey will have to try to eliminate the Voyagers on their home field. Game two is Saturday night at 7 PM and features a matchup of Karl Triana of the Osprey against Voyager Brandon Brennan. The game has been declared a "blackout," meaning fans should attend the game wearing all black clothing to support the team. A Voyagers win would force a decisive game three to take place Sunday night.
