Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
Lake Elsinore - In their 25th meeting this season and their fifth playoff match up since 2002, the Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the Lancaster JetHawks with a 1-0 win and an outstanding pitching performance by starter Matt Andriese who delivered the JetHawks with their first shutout of the season.
Andriese, who was the only Storm pitcher to collect 10 wins this season solely in a Storm uniform came out and pitched eight innings of three-hit baseball, his longest outing of the season. He went back-to-back outings where he collected eight strikeouts setting up closer Jerry Sullivan for another save.
Sullivan has now picked up three saves as the Storm has won three in a row, something they haven't done since they went on a seven-game win streak that ended on July 8 in Bakersfield. With the shutout the Storm finished the regular season with eight shutouts as a pitching staff, second in the league behind the San Jose Giants.
The lone run came in the second that began with a one-out walk to Luis Domoromo. With an infield groundout by Tate Domoromo advanced to second for Cory Spangenberg. Spangenberg would single to centerfield driving in Domoromo that would be enough for the victory.
The JetHawks finish the season 14-1 at The Diamond but have won 8 of 11 at the Hanger versus the Storm.
Right-hander Chris Fetter (0-2) will head to the mound against Nick Tropeano (6-3) for game 2-of-3 in the South division playoffs. The two teams are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Hanger in Lancaster.
