Hill City Howlers News Release

Lynchburg, VA- The Hillcats got off to a 1-0 lead in the fifth, but seven answered pushed the Dash ahead. The 'Cats added a late run in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't come through with the miracle win. The 7-2 loss put the 'Cats deeper in the hole for a shot at a second half championship with just two weeks remaining.

It was battle between the two pitchers, Lynchburg's Ryan Weber and Winston-Salem's Steve McCray, through the first four innings. Each was pitching efficiently and effectively. However, it would be the 'Cats that struck first in the bottom of the fifth.

A single and stole base put Adam Milligan at second with no outs. It was two consecutive retired before David Rohm came up with the big RBI single to make it a 1-0 game.

The potant Dash offense answered back immediately in the top of the sixth. The first three hitters registered a single, double and a sac fly that scored Keenyn Walker to tie the game at one each. Dan Black blasted an RBI double before Michael Earley added an RBI triple to push it to 3-1. Kevan Smith came through with a sac fly to score Earley and make it 4-1.

The hit parade continued in the top of the seventh when three singles, highlighted by Black's two-RBI single off of new pitcher Caleb Brewer, added to the total to give Winston-Salem a commanding 6-1 lead.

For good measure, Black added another RBI single to score Marcus Semien. Black's fourth RBI of the season was number 81 overall on the season.

Lynchburg battled in the bottom of the ninth. A Milligan doubled preceded a Edward Salcedo RBI single to cut the lead to 7-2. It wasn't enough as the shaky outing for Ryan Buch ended three batters later.

Weber (2-3) got his first loss as a Lynchburg starter. He went six and one-third innings, allowed six runs on eight hits. McCray (7-3) earned the win with a six inning performance. His five hits allowed led to one run.

Lynchburg takes on Winston-Salem tomorrow at Calvin Fallwell Field starting at 7:05pm . Michael Lee (2-2, 4.42) will get the nod tomorrow for the 'Cats. Scott Snodgress (4-0, 2.12) will be Lee's counterpart. If you can't get tickets, the Hillcats On-Deck Show powered by Honda/Suzuki of Lynchburg goes on the air at 6:40pm.
