Americans Add Top Forward from Europe

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans announced the signing on Friday, of Forward James Schaafsma, to a contract for the upcoming season.Schaafsma has spent much of his professional career in Europe, playing in the Italian League the last two seasons with Groden/Val Gardena. In 67 games, he scored 43 goals with 59 assists, for a combined 102 points. Prior to that, he played one season is the US with the Flint Generals of the IHL in 2009-2010, where he had 30 goals and 35 assists in 70 games.
"James Schaafsma will be a top player on our team and one of the top players in the league," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "He is a highly skilled player that plays both Center and the Left Wing."
With the Schaafsma signing today, it brings the number of players announced by the Americans to twelve.
The native of Chatham, Ontario, stands 6"0 feet tall and weighs in at 195 pounds. Schaafsma will turn 30 years old in February.
