Mobile BayBears News Release

The Mobile BayBears dropped their series finale to the Montgomery Biscuits, falling 3-2 at River Walk Stadium Monday afternoon. One night after recording 17 hits in a 14 inning, 8-7 win, the BayBears were held to just two runs on five hits over nine innings. With the loss, the BayBears settled for a split in the four game series with each team taking two games. The Biscuits win now means that both teams are tied for first place in the overall Southern League Standings.

RHP Gabby Hernandez suffered his seventh loss of the year, despite only giving up three runs on four hits and striking out a season-high seven batters in six innings of work. Hernandez retired the first nine batters he faced, not allowing the Biscuits to reach base until the top of fourth inning when he issued a lead-off walk to Ha Ju Lee and hit Ty Morrison, putting runners at first and second with no outs. Ryan Garko gave Montgomery a 1-0 lead in the next at-bat with a RBI double. The Biscuits added two more runs in the fifth inning when Mayo Acosta plated Greg Sexton with an RBI single, then scored from third later in the inning after a wild pitch from Hernandez.

The BayBears first run of the game came in the fifth inning when Evan Frey's RBI double drove in Dan Kaczrowski. In the sixth inning, Marc Krauss reached base with a one out walk and scored on a RBI double from Alfredo Marte. The BayBears failed to score any more runs over the final three innings as the Biscuits bullpen back a strong outing from RHP Alex Colome who started the game for Montgomery. Colome worked 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while walking five and striking out four.

The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium Thursday, July 19, to open up a four game homestand vs. the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at 7:05 PM.
