Keene Swamp Bats News Release

Holyoke, MA - After a five-run comeback by the Holyoke Blue Sox, Keene managed to hold on to win on an RBI hit-by-pitch from Dylan Moore (Cypress Community College) in the top of the ninth inning.

The Swamp Bats put the first runs of the game on the board in the top of the second. After consecutive singles from Frankie Schwindel (St. John's) and Jared Walsh (Georgia), Mike Papi (Virginia) lined out to left. Second-baseman Phil Mosey (Notre Dame) overthrew the ball on the relay in an attempt to double up Walsh at first. On the error, Schwindel scored and Walsh advanced to third. Brett Barrett (Southern Maine) hit Walsh in on a groundout. With two outs and Moore and Nelson Ward (Georgia) on first and second, Grant Kay hit an RBI single to close out Keene's scoring for the inning. Walsh's hit extended his on-base streak to eighteen games, and Kay's single advanced his hitting streak to eleven games.

Keene scored two more runs in the fifth. After singles by Papi, Dylan Delacruz (Central Connecticut St.), and Schwindel, Walsh hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Papi. With two outs and runners on first and second, Barrett hit an RBI single (his second of the game) and extended the Swamp Bats lead to 5-0.

Holyoke put up their first runs in the bottom of the fifth inning against Keene starter Joe Pistorese (Washington St.). The Blue Sox crossed the plate four times on a sacrifice line-out from Adam Norton (Notre Dame) and RBI singles by Jorden Keur (Michigan St.), Mosey, and Connor Mckay (Kansas). The Holyoke rally chased Pistorese off the rubber with runners on second and third. Fran Whitten (University of Maine) came in for relief, striking out Mike Fischer (Columbia) to end the inning. Pistorese ended his outing going 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on eleven hits and two strike outs. Keene headed into the top of the sixth inning leading the Blue Sox 5-4.

Whitten went 2.1 innings, walking one and striking out two. Tyler Gauthier (Southern N.H. University) relieved Whitten, starting the bottom of the eighth inning with the score still 5-4. Joel Klock (Niagra University) led off and walked on four pitches. The inning went downhill for the Gauthier, as the Blue Sox put up the all-important tying run on an RBI single by Norton.

Keene loaded the bases in the top of the ninth on singles from Cameron O'Brien (Louisville) and Walsh, and the intentional walk of JP Sportman (Central Connecticut St.), pinch-hitting for Barrett. With the score tied, two outs, and the bases loaded, Moore stepped up to the plate. Holyoke reliever Andrew Thome (North Dakota) hit Moore on the shoulder. The RBI hit-by-pitch by Moore scored O'Brien, giving the Swamp Bats a 6-5 lead. Moore ended the game going 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Rob Rogers (Keystone College) closed, retiring the side. The game ended on a slow-roller to the third base side by Mosey. Catcher O'Brien fielded the ball and threw to Walsh to end the game.

Gauthier earns the win and Rogers earns the save. Thome received the loss. The Swamp Bats improve to 22-6 while the Blue Sox fall to 11-18.

Keene is back in action Sunday night at Alumni Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
