PEARL, MS - On Monday, Mississippi Braves' southpaw Sean Gilmartin was selected as the Southern League Pitcher of the Week from July 2nd to July 8th.

In his only appearance during the week, Gilmartin faced off against the Jackson Generals RHP Brandon Maurer during the 12 inning game on July 6th. During Gilmartin's start, he went nine innings only giving up a solo homerun in the first inning to the General's Stefen Romero. Once rebounded, Gilmartin went on to strike out seven batters improving his ERA to 3.42 from 3.64.

The California native and Southern League All-Star, Gilmartin has been impressive throughout the season. To date he has struck out 80 batters in 108 innings while only walking 25 this season. His record stands at 5-6 with his total ERA at 3.42, however, significantly improving at home to 2.95. Furthermore, Gilmartin has made 11 quality starts during his 17 appearances on the mound.

Currently, Gilmartin is ranked as the seventh best pitcher in the Southern League and has completed more games (3) and threw more innings (108) than any pitcher in the league.

The No. 5 ranked 2012 Braves Top Prospect by Baseball America is currently scheduled to pitch again on Friday, July 13th against the Jackson Generals in Jackson Tennessee.

The next home game for the Mississippi Braves takes place tonight with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Pitching match ups for tonight's game include four time Major League All-Star RHP Ben Sheets (0-1, 7.20 ERA) throwing against the Birmingham Barons' LHP Spencer Arroyo (3-0, 3.38 ERA).
