
Generals Take Series in Montgomery with 3-1 Win

MONTGOMERY, ALA. (JULY 9, 2012) - The Generals won their second straight and take the series in Montgomery, winning on Monday at Riverwalk Stadium, 3-1. The Generals conclude their six-game, two-city road trip 4-2 and winners of their last three series'. Montgomery stranded 14 runners on-base, including the bases loaded in three innings. Jackson comes home in a first place tie with Chattanooga in the second half standings (53-36, 11-8).
Montgomery struck first with a run in the first inning with two outs on a double by Tyler Bortnick that scored Omar Luna. The Biscuits went on to strand the bases loaded in the first and fourth innings and stranded two on in the second and third.
Jackson responded in the top of the second with a run, taking advantage of a hit by Rich Poythress and Chih-Hsien Chiang reaching on an error. Poythress would eventually score on a double play hit into by Kalian Sams.
Ralph Henriquez broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth with his first homer since May 12th. The solo shot was Henriquez' second of the season and Jackson led 2-1.
Chih-Hsien Chiang provided some insurance for the Generals in the top of the ninth inning with his third Jackson home run making the score, 3-1.
Anthony Fernandez (4-0) won his fourth straight start to open his Double-A career Monday, despite not having his best command. Fernandez allowed just 1 run on 7 hits over 5.0 innings, walking 6 and striking out 4. Jandy Sena pitched two quality innings to earn a hold.
Carter Capps saved his 15th game this season by tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth innings. Capps has now gone more than one inning to earn 10 saves.
Offensively the Generals were led by Chiang, who finished the night 1-for-4 with the homer and Rich Poythress was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
The Generals take a day off on Tuesday and will begin a three-game set with the Mississippi Braves on Wednesday at Pringles Park, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. RHP Brandon Maurer (5-2, 3.61) will make the start for Jackson against RHP Zeke Spruill (3-3, 3.86) for the M-Braves.
