Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, N.Y. - The Auburn Doubledays (14-6) couldn't recover from an early 3-0 deficit, and ended up losing only their second game at home of the season on Sunday night, 7-2, at the hands of the Hudson Valley Renegades (11-10).

All three first inning runs were given up by Doubledays starter RHP Taylor Jordan (0-1), who got tagged with the loss but settled down after the first inning, tossing three innings and giving up those three runs on five hits while striking out four. It was the first three hitters in the lineup for Hudson Valley who scored the three first inning runs, as all three got aboard with hits. In total there were four hits in the inning and one hit batsman.

The Renegades added to their lead with a run in the sixth. First baseman Michael Williams walked, and he advanced to third on a single to right by RF Charles Epperson. The next batter, 3B Leonardo Reginatto, drove Williams home on another ground ball single to right to put Hudson Valley ahead 4-0.

The Doubledays first run came in the bottom of the eighth. DH Carlos Alvarez lead the inning off with a double to right. Two batters later, LF Angelberth Montilla singled to right, and his line drive single was mishandled by Epperson allowing Alvarez to score. The play was one of three errors committed on the night by the Renegades, and allowed Auburn to climb within three.

However, Hudson Valley dashed any hopes of another Doubledays comeback by plating three more runs in the ninth. With two outs and a runner at third, LHP Bryan Harper entered the game for Auburn and gave up four straight singles to the first four batters he faced. Two of the runs scored in the inning were charged to him, as his final line read 0.1 innings pitched, four hits, two runs, two earned, no walks, and no strikeouts.

The Doubledays were able to pick up one run in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a leadoff double by SS Stephen Perez. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout to first by Jordan Poole. LHP Jose Molina (1-1) got credit for the win, pitching three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out one. RHP Taylor Guerrieri started for the Renegades and also went three innings, so despite not giving up a run either he could not be in line for the win.

The Doubledays and Renegades wrap up their three game series on Monday, July 9. Auburn will send LHP Blake Monar (1-1) to the mound for his fourth start of the year. He will square off against RHP Jeff Ames (1-0) for Hudson Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. Mondays are "All-you-can-eat", meaning fans can get a General Admissions ticket, and unlimited hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, soda, and water for just $20.00. Upgrade to a box seat and it's only $25.00. Tickets available by calling the Doubledays box office at 315-255-2489 or by going online to www.auburndoubledays.com.
